On June 2, 2010, the Lemelson-MIT Prize Program announced its $500,000 award to Carolyn Bertozzi of the UC-Berkeley Department of Chemistry.

The Lemelson-MIT website notes that the award is dubbed the "Oscar for Inventors." The Lemelson-MIT Prize is awarded to outstanding mid-career inventors who have developed products of process of significant value to society.
In the 2009-2010 process, the program introduced a structured process to evaluate patents held by and related to the nominees. This process builds upon IPVision's business perspective of patents and included patent analysis reports on each nominee's patents.
Given the high value found in inventive activity and the disclosures and innovation incented by the patent system, IPVision is authorized to release the report on Carolyn Bertozzi's patents to the public.
